Bio

Painting and drawing have always been part of my life.  For many years I did it just for enjoyment, because I loved it. As time went on I became more eager to improve my work, to learn more about art, the great masters, their techniques, their materials.  And so I went to art college.  I studied in GMIT and graduated in 2013.  In many ways it was the ideal time for me to go to college, to be able to combine years of practical experience with a formal degree programme.  I loved every minute of it.

Drawing was my first love.  I spent hours and hours drawing as a child.  However, I did very little drawing when I started painting in my teens.  In my first year in college drawing was very much to the forefront.  This led me to study the drawing techniques of the old masters, in particular the silverpoint drawings of Leonard daVinci and Albrecht Dürer.  I was fascinated by this technique.  I did lots of research and loads of practice and finally mastered the art of silverpoint. I am honoured to be the only Irish member of The Society of Metalpoint Artists.

I enjoy sharing my skills and experience with groups who attend my classes and workshops. Over the years I've learned a lot through trial and error and research. It's an ongoing journey and I love sharing ideas and techniques with my students.  Many of my students are seniors who just love to paint. Under my guidance they can do just that using the knowledge I've acquired over time.
